Each year, top interior designers, architects, and furniture devotees converge on High Point, NC for the High Point Market, the largest home furnishings trade show in the world. Here we highlight a few significant and impressive trends from the recent show that we expect to see more of in the coming year.
Diamond, a timeless pattern, is often seen in small scale repeat patterns. What we don’t often see is large diamond patterns accenting modern spaces. We were very excited to see the use of large diamond patterns throughout the trade show. We believe these patterns, when used properly, can bring a subtle, sharp, cooling feel to larger otherwise open spaces. Here are some of our favorite uses from the show:
Indigo rules! This year at the trade show it was nearly impossible to escape the bright blue depth of indigo. From chairs and wall hangings to chandeliers and sofas the color indigo ruled the floor. We were frankly a little surprised, after the announcement in January that the Pantone Color of the Year was Greenery we came to the show expecting lush green accents in every room. The strong presence of Indigo wasn’t unwelcome though; with all its depth, we’ve always found Indigo to bring a welcoming, cooling accent to otherwise featureless spaces. Here are some of our favorite uses of indigo at this year’s show:
As we mentioned in our previous blog post, 2016 was the year for metals and neutral tones featuring raw and organic colors and textures. This spring we were very happy to see a resurgence in a style that’s being called sophisticated grandeur, the more colorful, lusher and softer version of 2016’s metal trends. Think deep, sultry and lavish textures. Think qualified decadence. Think gem tones, dark greens and blue ornate china. Fortunately, this trend is not solely reserved for traditional homeowners. At this year’s show, we started to see elements of sophisticated grandeur popping up on sleek, contemporary pieces as well. Here are some of our favorites:
